Uphill/Downhill
We rode Becky Mountain today and it reminded me how much I loveloveLOVE stupid road climbs. They're just so...painful! And stupid! But not boring! Or monotonous!
But then we rode the not-intimidating downhill on See-Off and the even-less-intimidating downhill on 276 and, guys, I have to say: I am the worst road descender in the history of the world.
This is a recent development. There was a time when I didn't* suck ass. But now I am scaredscaredSCARED. And I stubbornly refuse to take advice from Squirrel or the Saint or anyone because I'm too busy being scared to "find the apex of the curve", etc. I'll let loose for a few minutes but then get that TERROR FLASH and then grab the brakes even harder/sketchier. Loyal readers: is there a cure?
*Why is the little spell-check underline showing up on the word "didn't"? Am I going crazy? "Didn't" IS the correct contraction of "did not", isn't it?
Oh God, now they're underlining "isn't" too. Ack.

VeloNews Is Too Slow
So I'll fill you in, oh faithful reader*.
St. Marie dropped out...gahhh...I know...he threw down too hard on the first climbs and then he was all like "Ouch" and Squirrel was like "Save it for tomorrow, you stallion you." That was exactly the conversation they had.
The Manimal finished. However, he didn't quite top his top-20 result at MOUNTAIN BIKE NATZ. Helllloooooo, wrong discipline much? He also threw up. He really did leave it all on the course.
Overall a stellar day for the crack BC racing squad. And we'll be ringing in the morning with a long flat criterium!! Against national caliber road racers! Yaaaay! I think I might throw up too.
pretty preride.
P.S. GOOD LUCK to everyone stump-jumping or fat-tiring this weekend!! Or, you know, acclimating to sweet German terrain...JEALOUS.
P.P.S. Old Chub and Fat Tire are EVERYWHERE and it's killing me slowly with unslaked thirst.
*Does anyone read this? Am I talking to myself? Ah, that's ok.

You've Made the List
things that i love:
-gazpacho! and pudding! and cold-brewed coffee! and whipped cream! all of which i have in my fridge right now!
-BMB hangouts! let's just make this a weekly thing
-my huge compost pile
-when st marie does the dishes...what a nice guy
-marian keyes=best chick-lit author EVER
-getting paid to build pillow forts and eat chips'n'guac with a 3-year-old
-when a customer at the bakery sez "oh, are you new here?" and i smile and say "no...actually been workin' here for 6 years..."
-the highly inappropriate conversations we have in spanish class
-highland black mountain bitter, omg it's delicious. getchew sum!
-gossip girl. it's so terrible. so wonderful.
-did i mention beets? roasted to perfection?
things that i don't love:
-rain! sorry all you optimists and romantics and paddlers...the glass is NOT half full, i know we 'need it' but i 'don't want it'!
-getting dropped at tuesday night worlds...i just don't have it in me right now
-april fool's day, when for one sweet hour i thought this weekend's road race was canceled and i started planning up a lovely weekend filled with hanging out and tsali-racing and playing host to emily and etc etc etc...only to have my dreams crushed
-not knowing what to do with my life or, more pressingly, my summer. internship? live in mt shasta for awhile with my wonderful crunchy relatives? just hang out and ride and earn money?
-the stigma that comes with 'roadie'...in CH everyone had their heads crammed up their own booties (and i don't mean shoe covers) but here everyone is desperate to seem like they're not trying at all, that they don't care. i prefer the latter, definitely, but c'mon. i ride bikes. that's all.
-my INSANE global history teacher
to be continued later, i'm sure. there are lots of things i love, and also things i don't love.
and as you might've noticed, i LOVE exclamation points!...!!...!!!

Waterlogged
i don't like this rain. i also don't like this cold. i don't like it when spring behaves like spring. i like it when spring behaves like early summer. however, the weather did motivate me to run art loeb/north slope and that was cool. and painful. dirty wes d probably has it right..."running's for poor folks."
i also don't like it when the boyfriend is gone all day servicing rich people. then he comes home at like 9:30 with armloads of cts shirts and sram stickers and super delicious pro bars. it's not fair. the only service i can give to rich people is a perfect hazelnut mocha. and chances are they'll refuse it because it's not skim. oh, i can also babysit neurotic children and take care of pools. which reminds me, i really want to post pictures of the house where i'm pool-sitting. it's epic.
i do like beets. a lot. i bought some at ingles last night for my AMAZING roasted vegetable salad and i felt like i was totally pulling the wool over their eyes! i paid a dollar for this ugly dirty piece of rubble, took it home, peeled it, and got a ruby! wow!

today was cool because i showed a segment of 'earthed 5' to my clase de espanol and they all oohed and ahhed appropriately. now they associate that with collegiate racing. which is so, so, wrong. but good for our image.
